What's in it for 2022?

Posted by RaceRiggers - January 4th, 2022

Alright, probably should've made something like this earlier, but I'm hoping to make 2022 one hell of a year when it comes to my content output. I wanna make some good stuff.

This is more of a summary of how last year went, and what I plan to get done this year.

(Consider this an expanded version of this news post.)

2021 Shiz:

Last year, I finally worked up the courage to make a Newgrounds account. Of course, 14 year old me was kinda goofy for doing that, since I had nothing to post. Most of my drawings at the time were just the silly doodles that I made in my sketchbook. So,

However, that summer, I'd get a drawing tablet, and I'd start drawing digitally. Before that, I was using my finger on my phone screen to draw, so this was definitely a welcome replacement. But even with the tablet, my art's still definitely rough around the edges.

Looking back at last year, I was able to get 16 art pieces out right before the year ended. My first piece that year was Madness Rigging. It's a pretty meh drawing all things considered and an even more mediocre Madness Day drawing. Don't get me wrong, I don't despise it. In fact, I remember being ecstatic when I first saw it hit 50 views, especially considering the fact that I wasn't even scouted in the art portal. Along with that, I'm glad I got to introduce my characters, the Rigg-kids in it as well. Nevertheless, there was room for improvement.

After that, I made a drawing featuring a couple of characters from my unrealized idea known as Cubicles. Afterward, I made a Halloween drawing, an Eddsworld portrait, and a minimally animated gif. I also did the Newgrounds character meme, which actually got me my first favorite, so that's definitely another high point. However, things really began to pick up steam when I made my Rumble Reveal contest submission. Not only was that my first submission to actually be fully voted on, but it's my highest viewed submission as of now! Not to mention, I also ended up getting scouted by @picolocity366, who's help provide a lot of support during this last month. Along with that, my Peter the Ant Day submission went alright too. I believe I could've done better tbh, so that's definitely an event I'm looking forward to this year.

The year ended off with my animation practice of Doraemon. I'm proud of it. Again, it could be way better, but It's still pretty good practice for a medium I'm trying to learn about.

Overall, not a bad start I suppose!

Now, that's last year done. But what about my plans for THIS year?

2022 Shiz:

Alright, so 2022's started off pretty sweet too. Outside of the renewed hope I have, along with the motivation to keep building on top of my skills, I'd say this year's gonna be a bright one.

I'm honestly pretty content with how my Alien Hominid piece turned out. Not a too shabby start off to the new year!

Right now, I'm working on another submission to the art portal. It's another basic gif, but here's the rough animation because why not.

Definitely planning on getting more animated this year. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to join this community in the first place, animation is just rad, man.

Pixel day's right around the corner, too! Probably not gonna make a whole-ass game, but I may do another gif.

For Pico day, I'll probably just stick to a still image. Considering the fact that I wanna do Newgrounds character group drawing, my skills are not at all where they need to animate it. Then again, there's about five months 'til the big day, so who knows what crazy things I'll learn in that time.

For Peter the ant Day, however, I might animate something. It depends on how much time I put into a project like that.

I also wanna make Cubicles, or Riggs into an actual "episode". Y'know, the kind with voices and writing and all that other stuff. However, a project like that takes a lot of time, work, and devotion. Oh, and help. Help is also very important. Considering the fact that school's gonna be eating up a lot of my time, that may end up being pushed back for a very long time.

Oh, and I'm gonna be putting more time into learning different art techniques. Lineless art is something I definitely wanna try sometime in the future!

Final Things:

I just wanted to give one last thank you to this wonderful community of artists, animators, musicians, game designers, and many more for making this really feel like a wonderful place to be. You rarely find any communities that burst with this much creativity, ambition, teamwork, and general well-being. I may be new to this place, but I'm definitely gonna make the most out of my time here. Thank you, Newgrounds.
